APR Energy’s Botswana Project Continues to Gain International Praise

Francistown, Botswana (PRWEB) May 12, 2010 -- Recently, a delegation from the German African Business Association toured APR Energy (http://www.APRenergy.com)(APR)’s temporary power project in Francistown, Botswana as part of a five- day visit to the country to create a dialogue on the energy crisis in southern Africa. The 17- member delegation of executives within the German African Business Association was impressed by the size and functionality of the plant which is based upon APR’s diesel engine power modules (http://www.APRenergy.com).

“The site visit to the APR Energy power plant supported by MTU service showed two important messages to the German business delegation visiting Botswana: first that innovative solutions for fighting the energy crisis in southern Africa are desperately needed and officially supported and secondly that there are immense business opportunities for German business in the field of energy in Botswana in cooperation with international business partners.” said Andreas Wenzel, Senior Vice President / Director Southern Africa for the German African Business Association.

The 70MW/ 11kV Francistown power project was requested by the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), the national electrical utility of Botswana, to counteract “electricity shortages driven by demand growth and supply constraints in the Southern Africa region”. This power plant is currently being used by the BPC as an interim solution until the existing BPC- owned capacity is increased either through upgrades or new plants coming online.

Power from the Francistown power project is presently being delivered from the plant to the regional primary power grid, known as the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP). Out of all the plants in use by the 14 SAPP member utilities, APR’s Francistown power project is the largest temporary power plant of its kind to be connected.
